BBC educational spoof called Look Around You is back thanks to Adult Swim. "Look Around You covers basic school topics—water, germs, sulfur, ghosts—but doesn’t actually deliver any relevant information. It’s dead serious, but the info and class discussion questions are absolute nonsense. The first episode, “Maths,” begins with the question: “What’s the largest number you can think of?" I tried a few new restaurants this weekend, all to varying degrees of success. The highest on my list is the new outpost of Caracas in Williamsburg, which opened in Dec. Really reasonably priced, extremely delicious Venezulan food. I can't wait to go back and for the time being it is byob. I was also was so very kindly taken to check out brunch at Boqueria Soho. The food was decent, not sure if it would be my first choice for brunch but the cafe con leche was great (I had two and I barely drink coffee normally). Finally, I went to Clover Club for brunch after some reccommendations from friends but I was pretty disappointed. There wasn't a ton of choices and all the food was pretty heavy for brunch.

Hood Updates
Alan Harding relayed to a friend that Patois will take over a spot across the street. I am thinking probably the spot where the Rosemary Restaurant was especially since there is construction happening now.
The Frankies Empire is outlined in the current issue of NY Mag.
The sausage parlour, Grindhaus that is coming to Red Hook has a blog.
A deli will be coming to one of the open spaces under The Smith on Smith and Atlantic (the other will be a daycare).
The Calexico sign is up (via A Brooklyn Life) - I cannot wait for it to open.

Polaroids
I love me a polaroid photo so two things are here that help my cause (now that polaroid film is no longer sold).
1- Poladroid - This really great, free program that makes your digital photos into polaroids. Way fun and easy! And it connects right to flickr.
2- Polaroid Pogo - This new camera lets you take digital photos that can be printed out immediately from the camera. All you need is to load the mini paper. It's available in Japan no and will be available in the US in Spring 2009.Three Songs on Repeat
I can't stop listening to the new Animal Collective album, Merriweather Post Pavilion as a whole and different tracks keep catching my ear but right now, I am stuck on 'My Girls.' Sadly, their NY Bowery show is beyond sold out :(
Grouper - Heavy Water - <3 <3 <3
To say I was obsessed with Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago might be a wee bit of an understatement so to bring us into the New Year, Bon Iver has released a 4-song EP called Blood Bank and the title track is absolutely lovely.
I just got the new Handsome Furs and the new Andrew Bird but have not listened to those yet. And I am looking forward to the new Elvis Perkins album especially after listening to a few new tracks on his website.

Grilled Cheese Not To Be Missed
When I was back home visiting my family in Michigan, I went to eat at Cafe Muse in Royal Oak. I had to try the grilled cheese since it was voted the best grilled cheese by both Esquire Magazine and The Oprah Show. And they were right, it was delicious. Filled with 3 cheeses, basil, tomato and HONEY, here is the recipe. I will definitely be trying to replicate this at home.
